Submit an Article

At the HLC Maternal & Family Mental Health Research Center, we invite submissions to be featured on our site that reflect personal experience, professional insight, and community-centered perspectives on maternal and family mental health. Whether you're a researcher, advocate, practitioner, or parent, your voice matters here. Authors may submit work for either editorial review or peer review, depending on the type of article. Please review the categories below to determine the best fit for your work

Types of Submissions

Editorial Review

For: personal stories & reflections, commentary, opinion pieces, discussions, community highlights, event recaps, and general blog-style contributions.

  • Review Process: Evaluated by the editorial board for clarity, originality, and alignment with our mission.

  • Timeline: Decisions within 1–2 weeks.

  • DOIs: Select editorial pieces of lasting value (e.g., policy statements, feature essays) may be assigned DOIs.

Peer Review (Single-Blind)

For: original research, editorials, evidence-based articles, program evaluations, book reviews, and scholarly essays.

  • Review Process: Sent to at least two subject-matter experts in a single-blind process (reviewers know the author’s identity; authors do not know reviewers).

  • Timeline: Decisions within 2–4 weeks.

  • DOIs: All accepted peer-reviewed articles will receive a DOI and be permanently archived.

General Submission Guidelines

  • Length: 500–1,000 words (Editorial)

    1500-4000 words (Peer-Reviewed)

  • Format: .docx or Google Doc or PDF, 12-point font, double-spaced, with references where applicable.

  • Author Bio: 2–3 sentences about you

  • Abstract (Peer Review only): 150–250 words.

  • Optional: A headshot for author credit

  • Originality: Your work must be original and not previously published elsewhere, unless disclosed

What Happens If Accepted?

Accepted articles will be:

  • Published on our official site under “Articles & Publications”

  • Promoted via our newsletter and social media

  • Credited to you with full author attribution and bio

Author Rights

You retain full copyright to your work. By submitting, you grant us permission to publish it online and share it for educational or outreach purposes with appropriate credit.
